LEO Branches Out to Non-Logistics Business, Invests THB 1.5M to Promote Cannabis Cultivation
LEO Global Logistics PCL (LEO), a leading comprehensive Thai logistics provider, has branched out into the non-logistics business sector with an investment to promote cannabis cultivation. On July 24th, 2022, Mr Kettivit Sittisoontornwong, CEO of LEO Global Logistics, signed an MoU with Suk-Ruethai Safe Agriculture Community Enterprise, Uthai Thani Province, to stimulate the local economy for farmers and members of the Community Enterprise, by contributing to cannabis breeding and promoting the sale of cannabis saplings.
LEO has invested THB 1.5 million into the initiative, and the budget will bring about over 100,000 cannabis plants in both local and foreign strains to create careers for the local population and promote a sustainable economy for the community.
Mr Sittisoontornwong said, “The cooperation between LEO and Suk-Ruethai Safe Agriculture Community Enterprise is part of LEO’s mission to promote sustainable development. The Community Enterprise is one of Uthai Thani’s social enterprises aiming to nourish income distribution, career creation, poverty alleviation, social evolution, and at the same time making sustainable profitability.”
Mr Krairat Laokasetwit, president of Suk-Ruethai Safe Agriculture Community Enterprise, rejoiced at LEO’s visionary stance on cannabis, as the company has long been a proponent of the Thai government’s policy relating to legalizing, cultivating, and consuming cannabis. The investment will help the Community Enterprise grow cannabis plants for sale and become a source of sustainable income for local farmers and members of the enterprise.
The cooperation is part of LEO’s strategy to expand into non-logistics ventures. Due to the popularity of cannabis and hemp, the company saw an opportunity to expand into another business segment. It also benefits society as a stable source of income for the local population, which aligns with LEO’s way of developing sustainable enterprises for the company and community.
